Christmas Menus 2016

Here are some details for December…. 

Festive lunch is available Wednesday to Saturday

Still open for  Sunday lunch as well ! with one, two or three course options

Festive evening menu available Wednesday to Saturday

We are open Christmas Day but closed Boxing Day and the 27th December

Festive Lunch Menu For December 2016

Available Wednesday to Saturday from around 12noon

Two courses for £18 per person

Our bread served with a little ‘cup of winter waming soup’ while we prepare your main course…

Sopa de Castañas – chestnut and chorizo or Curried parsnip soup with pickled apples

A choice of four main courses…

Roast Salmon and poached oak smoked haddock ; caper -dill butter; champ potato; green beans

fennel salad

Local pheasant breast with Prosciutto ham and thyme; cranberry and orange stuffing

Mashed carrot and swede; duck fat roasted potatoes

Steak and kidney pudding with roast root vegetables ;stout,treacle and bacon sauce

Fragrant cous cous with Madjool date and marinated feta; roast cumin sweet potato, pomegranate

and sticky beets ;Cucumber cajik

Followed by a choice of three desserts…

Chocolate-walnut pudding with white chocolate rum custard

Warm plum compote with stem ginger ice cream; brown sugar meringue

Amaretto baba; passion fruit and clementine; whipped cream

or cheese…

Local Shropshire cheese from Mr Moyden’s – Wrekin Blue and

smoked Newport 1665;

and from Devon, Sharpham rustic with chive and garlic.

Twice baked souffle with Mr Moyden’s Shropshire Wrekin blue ;quince membrillo and salted almond salad; beetroot dressing £7-50


Cured Mackerel in aromatic olive oil with fennel and apple; smoked mackerel rillette with croutes £7-50

Crab and smoked salmon

Poole crab meat served with a Russian salad with smoked salmon £8-95

Game terrine

A coarse game terrine with Port jelly, cranberry compote and seed toast £7-95

and for main course


An opulent Moroccan style chicken pie, in filo pastry, with fruit and nuts – rich and abundant in textures and tastes ; Rocket,gem and orange salad; fried onions £18-50

Local dry aged sirloin

Seared with thyme and garlic ; Cabernet Sauvignon – shallot sauce

Dauphinoise potato Cabbage and bacon Roast carrots £23-50


Saltimbocca of monk tail wrapped in Prosciutto ham and purple basil, pan fried and roasted in the oven

Tomato and pesto sauce; courgettes ‘persillade’; olive mash £23-50


Deep fried risotto balls with mushoom and Parmesan; Morel and chive butter sauce; king oyster mushroom and caramelised red onion £16-50

For pudding

Bread and butter pudding with rum soaked sultanas ; custard £6-50


Passionfruit delice – mousse ‘cake’ with passion fruit, Italian meringue ,cream and genoise sponge £6-50

Christmas Day Lunch Menu 2016

Celebration Drink, on arrival

A glass of Hush Heath Estate NV ‘ Balfour Leslie’s Reserve’ , a fine English sparkling wine from Kent

Served with nibbles of

Serrats anchovies and onion confit in puff pastry Truffle crisps Bella Di Cerignola olives

To start with

Christmas spiced beef

Great Berwick organic beef cured and spiced for two weeks; then cooked slowly.

Sliced into shavings on to a potato and horseradish salad; green bean vinaigrette

Followed by

Smoked haddock and spinach souffle

A twice baked souffle seved with John Ross jr Smoked salmon; chive cream sauce

The main event

Traditional roast turkey

From a small local farm at Longeville , Shropshire

Turkey crown gently slow roasted and a ballotine made with the leg

Chipolatas ; Herb stuffing

Cranberry and Port compote; Turkey gravy ; Bread sauce

Roast potatoes Baby new potatoes with Puglian olive oil and flat parsley

Brussel sprouts with smoked bacon; ‘mashed’ swede and carrot

And for pudding

Christmas Pudding

Our individual steamed puddings served with luscious Sauternes custard


Grand Marnier Parfait

An iced dessert with orange licquer; clementine and passionfruit salad; almond tuille

And to take home

A gift box of our own baked sweet treats; may be to munch in the evening or treat a special friend…

and other little surprises on the day !

We’ll be open for New Year’s Eve  and we will also be open New Year’s Day for a special Sunday lunch;
